5 Ways to Make Money as a Student: A Funaabite's Perspective

1. RUN A PRINTING BUSINESS

Even though photocopy goes for 3pages/N10, those guys still make some profit from the business. If they don’t, they’d have quitted. Of course, most students already have a laptop, but use it as PlayStation or DVD player. All you need is a printer and a pack of paper. With less than N20,000, you can start this business.

You don’t need to own a shop. Your room is enough as a shop. Just do enough publicity and you’re done. Make friends with a lot of finalists, and if you’re a finalist, you’re in luck. You just have to convince all your mates to come type/print their project work with you. Stop being idle!

2. GRAPHICS WORK

Every now and then, religious organisations, associations e.t.c are always in need of flyers, handbills, posters e.t.c, with basic knowledge of CorelDraw and Adobe Photoshop, you can be making money help these organizations design stuffs.

Every session, various departmental and college associations (and of course the Students’ Union) are always in need of souvenoirs (customized books) to dispatch to their members, you could be the one handling these projects and making money from it.

Spare some time and learn CorelDraw and stop depending on mummy and daddy.

3. DATA ANALYSIS

Although learning to use SPSS, SAS, e.t.c. is time consuming. But if you can go through the stress of learning it, you’ll make it big time. Some data analysis agents charge as high as N5,000 to analyse data for a single student. Imagine yourself collecting N5,000 from each of your classmates to help them analyse data. That’s cool money.

If you’ll be going on IT/FPY soon, make it part of your plan to learn using SPSS.

4. INTERNET DATA PLAN RESELLING

This business is fast becoming popular and it’s profitable too. The challenge is, you have to be constantly available if you really want to progress in this business. I as a customer will not be encouraged if I request for data and it took 24 hours for me to get it from you. What this means is that, your whatsapp and phone lines must always be available, and you must be ready to pick calls all the time (even if you’re in a lecture room). What does it take to start this business? Just a phone and N10,000. Awareness is important though.

5. SELL SOMETHING

There are some items that appeals to students, if you can afford it, why not get them in bulk and start selling. Reading lamp for example is something every students need, and some don’t have. The most popular one is usually sold for N800. If yours can be sold for N750 or N700 a lot of students will definitely patronize you. Another example is the scientific calculator, and even flash drives.

Though this kind of business is seasonal and may be capital intensive. The whole idea is, see a need and meet the need. There is only ONE legitimate ways to make money: SELL SOMETHING! Either a physical product or service. In first semester, get a knowledgeable friend, make a lot of weed albums and sell it! In second semester, make a lot of forage albums and sell it!

Don’t just live your life depending only on your parents, sponsors, uncles and aunts, do something yourself. Start training yourself to be independent, because you will soon be.
