The Academic Staff Union of Universities on Monday challenged against the choice of the Federal Government to scrap the post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
Cautioning that the scrapping “predicts a genuine threat for the nature of education in Nigeria, “the union likewise said the choice undermined the self-sufficiency and forces of colleges’ Senate as the most elevated strategy making body on academic matters, especially confirmation of understudies and honor of degrees.
The ASUU President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, who expressed this in Abuja, included that the Federal Government did not counsel the union on the matter.
He said, “The cancelation of post-UTME to us forecasts a genuine peril for the nature of education in this nation.
“The contention of Federal Government on the approach is inadmissible and conceivably destructive to the eventual fate of Nigerian’s education framework. We approach the administration to revoke its choice and gather a certifiable partners ” meeting on the issue before putting forth any arrangement expression.”
